Arriva Rail North – alternative materials for solar PV
Name: Arriva Rail North
Location: Northern England
Project summary: Investigating materials to be used for renewable energy generation and storage that can withstand damage and destruction
Detailed summary: We are keen to introduce renewable technology into our railway stations, but have particular needs that aren’t currently being met by products available. We need to ensure that any renewables for railways stations can withstand damage and destruction, both from weather but also from other external factors that can’t be controlled. Currently all solar photo-voltaic panels use toughened glass, which isn’t strong enough for us to invest in confidently. We are hoping to create a partnership with a student to look at alternative materials that may be suitable and more durable.
