Detailed summary: FTNCG owns and manages the Spa Ponds Nature Reserve on the edge of Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. We welcome students with an interest in nature and in heritage in general, and in particular an interest in ponds, especially ponds of medieval origin. The reserve has four living ponds, and possibly one former pond. The reserve is also located adjacent to the River Maun. There is plenty of scope for water quality testing and surveying biodiversity, including surveying invertebrates as well as trees (including some potentially ancient trees) and plants. The site is also of historic significance, so there is also scope for researching the fascinating history of the sites and environs, including taking and analysing core samples. Additionally, there is plenty of opportunity to explore sociological dimensions of this charitable community Group and the role the Group plays and could play in the wider local community.
