Detailed summary: We’re looking for a student to conduct a research project into the spawning behaviour of migratory river herring in the River Severn. Canal & River Trust, The Environment Agency & Severn Rivers Trust are embarking on an ambitious river restoration project enabling migratory fish to swim freely along the River Severn. The project focuses on the Shad (Alosa fallax & Alosa alosa)
By identifying current spawning areas and reaches of suitable spawning habitat we will gain a better understanding of the conservation status of the species, and the importance of the River Severn to its UK population. This work will help evidence ongoing consideration of future designation of protected areas and support future efforts into the protection of these species during the reproductive stage of their lifecycle.
